Why We're Committed to Natural Skin Care

by the Altilis Beauty Team

It used to be that the idea of natural skin care ingredients meant that a product was less effective. Today, however, that couldn’t be further from the truth. And the team here at Altilis Beauty is leading the way in proving how natural ingredients such as breadfruit flower and soapwort can be just as effective, if not more so, than traditional ingredients used in other skincare.

However … not all natural products are created equal. Because the FDA has not regulated the term “natural,” it can be confusing to know if the products you’re using are actually coming from natural and sustainable sources. Furthermore, many natural ingredients require precise formulations in order to work together effectively, which is why our formulations use only the most necessary ingredients in effective concentrations for an active ingredient to be beneficial. Not all skin care brands can say that.

What Natural Skin Care Means

To Altilis Beauty, natural means that we’ve discovered powerful plants that, when procured sustainably, are cruelty-free. Through innovation, we’ve combined the power of plants to create effective skincare to give customers their best skin ever. Our team has searched the globe to source natural ingredients that are safe and effective, with your skin’s radiance in mind. We’ve then processed these ingredients in ways that maintain their integrity without adding any artificial or synthetic preservatives or fragrances into our products.

Our Most Powerful Natural Ingredients

Breadfruit flower extract is a key natural ingredient in Altilis Beauty products, but it’s not the only one. Breadfruit works with other natural and sustainably sourced ingredients that, when combined, create the most effective products for the skin. Each Altilis Beauty product is uniquely formulated  but many contain the following important natural ingredients.

Here, we break down a few of the most powerful natural skin care ingredients.

Breadfruit Flower Extract

There’s a reason we’ve worked to become the first skincare line in the world to be made from breadfruit flowers. The extract has a higher antioxidant activity than vitamins C and E. It’s also soothing and brightening, rich with bioflavonoids that contain tyrosinase inhibitors. These work to prevent the appearance of sunspots and age spots caused by UV radiation as well as acne, rosacea and wrinkles.

Soapwort

It’s often called the “world’s most natural soap” and is used as a cleanser that calms skin instead of stripping it of its natural oils.  Soapwort has natural saponin content, which has antioxidant, regenerative, and anti-aging properties. We extract the soapwort sustainably  from organically grown and pesticide-free plants that are prepared via a cold system to maintain the natural state and avoid loss of effectiveness from heat processing.

Kukui Oil

Kukui nut oil is cold-pressed from the nuts of the Kukui tree (Candlenut tree). It has been used for thousands of years by the aboriginal peoples of the Pacific Islands. It’s great for all skin types, but especially for acne-prone skin, as it is non-comedogenic (meaning it will not clog pores). The fatty acids present make it ultra-hydrating for the hair and skin.

Beyond the Bottle

Natural skin care isn’t just about finding the right plant-based ingredients and formulations, though. It is also about supporting the natural environments and communities that produce the ingredients our products rely on.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

We believe that for a product to be natural, the packaging must be sustainable as well. Altilis Beauty boxes are made out of the highest post-consumer content at 30 percent. Both our boxes and our packaging (which is made out of a single type of plastic) have been purposefully designed and printed to allow them to be 100 percent recyclable. And because they are airless, oxidation of the product is limited, meaning it stays fresh until the last drop so  none is wasted.

We’re also working hard to combat the adulteration of raw materials and unsustainable plant material sourcing. This is part of being a sustainable and natural skin care brand. Our ingredients were chosen to ensure the credibility of the source and the ability for all the ingredients to be grown together in a symbiotic ecosystem.

Our Commitment to Community

In addition to our passion for natural skin care, we are also committed to being cruelty-free throughout our supply chain — including the humans we rely on to cultivate our ingredients. We are a proud member of the Breadfruit community, working directly with stakeholders on a global scale to coordinate the commercial efforts to benefit the sustainability of the plant and respect its origins. Until we discovered the value of their extract, Breadfruit flowers were considered a waste product. Now, rather than composting these flowers, we created a value chain for economic development and generation of new income sources.

Breadfruit is a staple food crop in the Pacific Islands, and our  initiatives with farmers ensure we can continue to source breadfruit in a way that is sustainable, ethical and that brings new income and job opportunities into the community.

Final Thoughts

For Altilis Beauty, natural skin care means committing to doing right by both our customers — and our planet — every step of the way. We believe that nature holds the key to unlocking glowing, radiant skin, and we are dedicated to finding new and innovative ways to tap into its potential.
